Maggy's Story

John Purves considers St.Amant to be part of his family. John’s younger sister, Maggy, has called St.Amant her home away from home for four decades. Maggy was born with a developmental disability.

When Maggy was a young girl, John’s parents – his mother Doreen and his late father Robert – came to a difficult realization. Their darling daughter Maggy, they realized, could receive better care with help from St.Amant than the family could provide on their own. Gregory's Story

Five and a half years ago, our family embarked on a journey filled with overwhelming challenges that seemed insurmountable.

You see, our only child, Gregory, suffered a brain injury related to complications as a result of entering the world six weeks early. It was clear our lives were about to change dramatically. Ours would not be a typical homecoming as it is for most parents who experience the joys of welcoming a new life into their family. What we did have in common with other parents, however, is that we wanted what was absolute best for our child. Read more 


Rebeka's Story

We wanted to believe that they were wrong. Rebeka looked healthy and she was active.

Rebeka was born in November 1996. We were overjoyed and filled with love and anticipation for the years ahead. As Rebeka grew into a toddler, her personality started to develop, with her dancing eyes and huge smile, she was growing into an adventurous, funny little girl. Rebeka was reaching all the milestones any youngster would – except she had a constant runny nose and some digestive problems. Read more

 

 

Alec's Story

Siblings playing, laughing, sharing, fighting…it’s all part of family unity. For Rhonda and Richard Cenerini, and their son older son Colin, one of the hardest parts of loving their younger son and brother Alec, was not feeling the love returned.

“It’s one thing for us, because we understand that Alec has Autism and that he loves us even if he can’t show it the way a child normally would, but to try to explain it to our older son Colin, was really hard.” said Rhonda. Read more

 

 

 

 

Leonard-story Leonard's Story

Leonard was a very typical teenager. Loved dearly by his Mom, Dad, and three siblings and especially close to his one brother Ezra, he is a fan of rap music, Family Guy, and hanging out with his friends. Growing up in a rural community, Leonard also liked to hunt, fish and train the family dog.
